About Colon Hydrotherapy

FlowersWhat is Colonic Irrigation or Colon Hydrotherapy?

The society we live in is filled which substances or chemicals, which are foreign and often harmful to our body. Years of unhealthy eating results in our intestines getting clogged up with all manner of residues from sticky, starchy, overprocessed foods. These then harbour bacteria which can give rise to all manner of problems, such as bloating, parasites, fungal infections, digestive problems, irritable bowel syndrome and much more.

Colonic irrigation is a gently internal cleansing treatment, a method of cleansing the colon by removing accumulated toxic matter, toxins, dead tissue, parasites, worms and other substances (such as mucus), that have built up inside the large intestine. Unlike the use of ordinary laxatives, colon hydrotherapy is not habit-forming and actually improves the muscle tone of the colon.

Colon hydrotherapy is also referred to as colonic irrigation, or simply a colonic.

Colon Hydrotherapy

Colon hydrotherapy is a therapy which gently cleanses the inside of the whole colon.  Over the course of the session the colon will be filled and emptied of water many times.  Each time this filling and emptying procedure is carried out, wastes, mucus and other contents of the colon will be eliminated, leaving you refreshed and the colon healthier.

A colonic is not the same as an enema. An enema usually involves filling the rectum (the lower part of the colon) with water - and then eliminating the water down a toilet.  An enema is certainly a good procedure, but a colonic is far more cleansing. The reason is the equipment is specially designed to allow the repeated filling and emptying of the colon (compared to 1-2 fillings of the rectum with an enema).  Also a special device is used, called a speculum (we use high quality disinfected, sterile speculums) that allows water to flow in the colon, and waste out, without you having to move, or anything altered.  This repeated washing allows the water to move much higher up in the colon, until the whole colon can be filled with water.

Why do People Receive Colonic Irrigation?

Many people receive the treatments during a period of life style change or as a preventive measure.

Some people manifest symptoms of intestinal distress; constipation (some from prescription drugs), carbohydrate indigestion, diarrhea, gas, bloat, hemorrhoids, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, diverticulosis, colitis, parasites, skin conditions such as psoriasis, shingles and eczema, inability to loose weight, and scar tissue and adhesions from surgery.

Some people suffer from pain; abdominal pain, continuous headaches and migraines, back or shoulder pain, aching joints, gout.

Some people are immune-compromised with alergies, rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis, cancer, chronic fatigue, candida, infections, colds or influenza.

Colon irrigation is used sometimes for medical reasons; pre and post surgery or barium x-ray and geriatric.

Some people doing a fast, cleansing program, a raw food diet, a liver and/or gallbladder flush, or recovering from an accident.

Some people are working on emotional issues which they feel are physiologically rooted in their intestines.

What is Constipation?

Constipation is any form of congestion and is usually accompanied by dehydration. Any bowel movement a day is a sign of constipation and incomplete elimination is a form of constipation. Symptoms are overweight, fatigue, irritability, mental confusion, bloat, gas, indigestion, lethargy, headaches, migraines, earaches, sinus drainage, allergies, cellulite, anxiety, depression, pessimism, whining, unsatisfied hunger or poor circulation.

Why Colon Hydrotherapy?

Many believe that disease begins in the colon. To be in optimum health the colon (also called the large intestine or bowel) must be functioning to full capacity. The colon, together with the kidneys, lungs and skin are responsible for eliminating waste from the body. Over time, the colon may lose its ability to properly empty all waste from the gastrointestinal tract due to combination of poor diet, and lifestyle. And through ‘auto intoxication’ these toxic substances can be transported into the bloodstream where the lymphatic, and circulatory systems, as well as the lungs and kidneys become vulnerable to a serious of health risks.

Colon hydrotherapy helps with a staggering amount of health problems, including the following:
constipation, diarrhoea, diverticulitis, colitis, spastic colon, parasites, irritable bowel syndrome,  headaches, bad breath, earaches, gum disease, allergies, body odour, sinus problems, bloated stomach and wind, inability to lose weight, high blood pressure, hemorrhoids, indigestion, stiffness or sore joints, backache, rheumatism, sciatic pain, osteoarthritis, blood poisoning, mental and physical sluggishness, bladder infections, poor circulation, menstrual problems, prostrate problems, kidney or liver problems, psoriasis, allergies, acne, persistent colds, irritability, insomnia and cellulite.

The Vitalis Clinic and Brunelle Method

Vitalis Colon Care Clinic uses the Brunelle closed method of colonic irrigation.  This method has a unique feature.  The Brunelle method divides the bowel into ten zones.  The bowel is NOT filled up full of water therefore NO pressure is used.  It works on the principle of only a small amount of water is used, and utilises a pulsing action or massage action within specific parts of the bowel.  The bowel/colon has reflex points, which correspond to specific organs, and in turn this will help the organs perform better. The method is also enhanced by using medical oxygen circulated into the water throughout the therapeutic treatment, producing an antiseptic and healing effect on the colon. The equipment is therapeutically designed to take the water exactly where we want and need it to go.

The features of the Brunelle apparatus are:

The Procedure

You won't need to make any special preparations prior to having colonic irrigation. However, eating a large meal, or having lots to drink shortly before the procedure, isn't advisable. Colon hydrotherapy is a gentle, safe treatment during which warm water is introduced into the rectum with a speculum. Each treatment session lasts around 45 to 60 minutes. Before the procedure, you will talk with the therapist who will ask you questions about your lifestyle and medical history and an iridology assessment is given, including an accurate description of the condition and shape of the bowel. During the procedure, you will lie on your side, while warm water is passed into the bowel through a tube that is inserted into the rectum (back passage). This water circulates through the colon in order to encourage the bowel to empty itself. Waste products are then passed out of the body through the tube. If a lot of gas is trapped in the colon the therapist will gently massage your abdomen to help the process along. During  the  treatment  you will be fully covered with a gown, and a sheet will be placed over you to maintain your privacy.
